Linux Mint

Linux Mint

The purpose of Linux Mint is to produce a modern, elegant and comfortable operating system which is both powerful and easy to use.
Started in 2006, Linux Mint is now the 4th most widely used home operating system behind Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS and Canonical's Ubuntu.
Some of the reasons for the success of Linux Mint are:
  • It works out of the box, with full multimedia support and is extremely easy to use.
  • It's both free of cost and open source.
  • It's community-driven. Users are encouraged to send feedback to the project so that their ideas can be used to improve Linux Mint.
  • Based on Debian and Ubuntu, it provides about 30,000 packages and one of the best software managers.
  • It's safe and reliable. Thanks to a conservative approach to software updates, a unique Update Manager and the robustness of its Linux architecture, Linux Mint requires very little maintenance (no regressions, no antivirus, no anti-spyware...etc).

 ReactOS

is a free open source operating system based on the best design principles found in the Windows NT® architecture (Windows versions such as Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 are built on Windows NT architecture). Written completely from scratch, ReactOS is not a Linux based system, and shares none of the UNIX architecture.

The main goal of the ReactOS® project is to provide an operating system which is binary compatible with Windows. This will allow your Windows® applications and drivers to run as they would on your Windows system. Additionally, the look and feel of the Windows operating system is used, such that people accustomed to the familiar user interface of Windows® would find using ReactOS straightforward. The ultimate goal of ReactOS® is to allow you to use it as alternative to Windows® without the need to change software you are used to.

Zorin OS Linux

Zorin OS is a Linux operating system, just like Mac or Windows. Zorin OS is built on the Linux architecture so it is completely open source, which means that anyone can modify anything in the operating system to suit their liking. Zorin OS is based on Ubuntu Linux which is the most popular Linux operating system in the world. But Zorin OS is different, Ubuntu is quite hard to use for Windows users. However, Zorin OS is the solution to that problem, it makes it easy to use for current Windows users. But that's not it, as well as being open source it is also:

* Safer than Windows, all the Linux distributions have nearly no risk of getting malware
* Faster than Windows 7, its tested to be more than twice as fast as Windows Vista
* More customizable than Windows
* Built with the help of the community, so even you can contribute to the Zorin OS project!
* More advanced as new releases take place 6 months after previous ones
* No risk of getting Viruses
* Customizable user interface thanks to our Look Changer
* Stable as it is based on the robust Linux operating system
* All the software you'll ever need out of the box
* Extremely versatile and customizable Open Source Software
* Available in over 55 language

You also don't need to worry about Windows because you can choose to have Zorin OS installed alongside Windows (see the installation page in the Forums for more details) which also means that you that can boot up Windows instead of Zorin OS. Furthermore, you can also access all your Windows files on Zorin OS with the file browser. You can even run your Windows programs on Zorin OS using a program called WINE. Also you needn't worry about support for Zorin OS as Canonical (the people who make and support Ubuntu) will support it, as Zorin OS works in the same way as Ubuntu Linux as it is based on it.

Dia is roughly inspired by the commercial Windows program 'Visio,' though more geared towards informal diagrams for casual use. It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.
It can load and save diagrams to a custom XML format (gzipped by default, to save space), can export diagrams to a number of formats, including EPS, SVG, XFIG, WMF and PNG, and can print diagrams (including ones that span multiple pages).

Subtitles

Subtitles

Subtitles is a very simple app that will find subtitles for your movies. All you need to do is right click on the movie file, choose a language from the selection and you guessed it just click. Your Web browser will open up, displaying a perfect set of subtitles for you to download. If Subtitles doesn't find your movie straight away, don't worry. Subtitles doesn't search for the movie name (too much scope for error) but instead calculates the checksum. If it doesn't already have that particular checksum stored in its database, it automatically looks for it elsewhere on the internet. If it still can't find it, you search manually and the checksum is saved for future use. With more than 120,000 subtitles being downloaded every day, however, the chances that your movie will be correctly identified is getting better by the minute.
